Five days between postings isn't good enough, even if I have very few fans. But I have a secret that can't yet be told - ooh, seven magpies - even if it's total paranoia on my part to think anyone I know might read my blog. Let's just say brum brum. All will become clear very soon.

Meanwhile, back to daily life, I've done two medical interview sessions this week. It's a very small sample size to base any views on, but I can't help feeling that the UKCAT as a primary selector for medical applicants is not necessarily picking out the right people. But two sessions is not enough to make any judgements and in any case, this is no longer my business. It is hard to step back. This time around though, having watched other half go through junior medicine, I no longer feel that a rejection is such a bad thing - it seems to me that I'm simply saving them from a life of misery that none of them can currently comprehend.

hI

did you advocate UKCAT while at BL or were all major decisions made after your departure?

Did you ever let a grad with a 2.2 apply for the 5 yr course?

You might be freaked a bit by my knowing your background. Rest easy - I am a long time reader of AF.co.uk and now AF.net

Everything to do with UKCAT happened after my departure. We were discussing 'a test' while I was there but at the time we were aiming to at least use something that other med schools use, so that applicants would not be paying for or taking several different tests. UKCAT was complete news to me!

As far as I can recall we didn't accept anyone with a 2.2 at time of application - there were very occasionally people holding conditional offers on a 2.1 result, who then got a 2.2 and with serious personal extenuating circs were allowed to take up the place. But that was for people already holding offers and I would say maybe 5 got in this way over the 4 years I was there.
